Suspect in Kidnapping and Rape Extradited to Santa Clarita

Eugene Lee Upshaw was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station for a sexual assault of a woman from 2009.  Steuben County sheriff's deputies arrested Upshaw a commercial truck driver in upstate New York and he was extradited to California.  The charges date back to September 20, 2009, when he allegedly asked the victim for a ride and in exchange he would buy her a bottle of alcohol. He allegedly drove her car to a dirt road in a remote part of Castaic where he raped her. Upshaw faces nine felony counts of kidnapping, rape, sexual assault, assault with a deadly weapon, sodomy and other sex crimes, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. If convicted, he could face up to life in prison.

Upshaw, has prior convictions for burglary in Texas and for sex crimes in New Mexico.  He is being held on $10 million bail.
