During my time in law school, I interned with the public defender’s office,
and could see firsthand the difference a good criminal defense attorney
could make in a person’s life.
I believe we care more for our clients and work harder to get the best
results possible on every case. In addition, as a firm with three attorneys
that focuses primarily on criminal law, I believe we bring more knowledge
and experience defending criminal cases than most other firms.
While public defenders are dedicated and hardworking attorneys, their caseload
dwarfs that of most private practitioners. They simply cannot put in the
time on each case to make sure they do their best. Our firm takes the
time to make sure we spend as much time as possible on each and every
one of our cases.
The first thing we do is learn as much about the case as we can so that
we can successfully defend our client. The better we know their case,
the better we can defend our clients.
My role as an attorney is to be my client’s advocate, to argue on his behalf
and to be his counselor, and offer advice and guide our client through
the criminal justice system.
I tell them to never speak to the police without first getting advice from
an attorney. The police have been trained to get people to say things
that they shouldn’t. I tell them to exercise their right to remain silent
and to request an attorney.
I recently represented a man who was charged with child molesting. We were
able to convince the prosecutor that the evidence showed that they had
the wrong man, and obtained a complete dismissal of the case.
Hiring an attorney as soon as possible allows the attorney to obtain statements
from witnesses while the memory is still fresh and evidence before it
can be lost or destroyed. It also gives an attorney the opportunity to
do a pre-filing investigation to try and keep charges from being filed.
